It seemed that nothing stayed put - including Dave Chappelle, who, bugging out, ditched his Comedy Central series in mid-production (along with his $50 million contract). Who could even say for sure anymore what television is, with more and more of its programs migrating to iPods, computer screens and other exotic destinations? The TV anchor desk - long a stronghold of stability - was jarred by change this year, with more expected in 2006.Įven the TV medium itself quaked in the face of technological upheaval. (Their TVs were switched off shortly before the plane landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport.) In September, passengers aboard a JetBlue airliner were pretty shaken up when in-flight TV displayed their own unfolding plight: a crippled nose wheel on their aircraft that could have spelled doom. "We've got guys riding around in pickups with automatics drawn, in broad daylight, in downtown New Orleans, as buildings burn in the background." "I just can't believe what I'm seeing," said one correspondent early on. No viewer will ever forget the sights TV captured - or the faith-shaking scenes that exposed a bungled response to the crisis. Then, in late summer, Nature's wrath hit home as New Orleans and the Gulf Coast were slammed by Hurricane Katrina.
